Our coffee is exclusively grown in Brazil, Costa Rica, and Vietnam. Once ripe the crop is selectively picked by hand. We have been in partnership with the same plantations for almost 100 years, and are advocates of the Fairtrade payment scheme.

The coffee beans are then harvested from these cherries and left in the sun to dry.

Once dry, the beans are put through a hulling process to remove the outer skin. This is done using machinery that can achieve high levels of vibration.

The hulled beans, also known as "Green Beans", are then packaged for export to various roasteries. Our beans are transported to our roastery in Milan, Italy.

Since Alberto Barbarossa first opened the Barbarossa Roastery in 1912, the family continues to run operations from the same location. The original Roaster still stands on site, but unfortunately is now for decorative purposes only.

Our beans are then packaged and sent to you, our customers, as well as our partnered establishments. We also offer ground beans, in which case we grind them on site before shipping.

Just like how Alberto Barbarossa had his coffee, we recommend the espresso brewing process to experience the nuanced flavours of our coffee beans. But for most home consumption we recommend pour over, to preserve the coffee's delicate tones.

Finally, drinking our coffee black exposes the best out of the coffee. But any way you want your coffee, our beans can accomodate. Now sit back, relax, and enjoy!
